The first official documentation of the
Lake George Fire Department Auxiliary appeared in the local
newspaper in 1939.
“The Officers of the Women’s
Auxiliary of the Lake George Fire Department will complete
plans today for the first annual banquet, which will take
place in the Worden Hotel, where election of officers will
take place. Ruth Monroe is president, Ruth Blair is vice
president, Dorothy George secretary, S. Schermerhorn,
treasurer, Jesse Finkle publicity chairman and Ada Norton,
refreshments chairman.”
Over Seventy-two years later we are 23
members strong and continue to support the members of our
fire department. Our fund raising efforts allow us to keep
an ongoing commitment to the department and the community.
As part of our commitment to our department we provide for
them a Fire Call team, in which our members respond to fire
scenes with needed refreshments, meals and rehabilitation
time. We host an annual holiday party for the children of
the members of the department providing them with a special
gift from Santa. We support the “adopt a family” thru the
Lake George Elementary School as well. We also provide
support for all of our members during times of illness, or
loss, in whatever way we can.
Our current membership is made up of
women who have served within the auxiliary for over 65 years
all the way right down to our newest members.
We are proud to serve as the Lake
George Fire Department Auxiliary.
Lake George Volunteer Fire
Department Junior Auxiliary.
The Junior Auxiliary work along side
the adult members of the department and auxiliary, during
fund raisers, dinners, and times of need. The goal is to
present them with the background, education and experience
they will need as adults not only in the world of emergency
services, but life in general. This is a wonderful
opportunity to perform Community Service as well. In order
to be a member of the Junior Auxiliary a child must be the
son, daughter, grandson, or grand-daughter of a member of
the fire department or auxiliary who has celebrated their 11th
birthday but has not reached their 18th
birthday. Those interested should have their parent or
grandparent contact a member of the current Auxiliary.
